Early Years Open Assembly

Dear EY 3/4/5 Parents,

We would like to invite you to the “Early Years Open Assembly” on Friday, April 17th at 1:30. Open assembly is a special time for your children to share their talent on the stage.

As part of our “How We Express Ourselves Unit”, students have filled out a performance survey to tell us what their interests are. From that form, we would like to come up with an act for the students to perform on the Early Years stage. We will be practicing at school but we also encourage you to practice in your homes.

If there is a performance piece that you are practicing at home, please feel free to email us the details so we can support with practice at school. Please let us know:

What kind of performance? (dancing, singing, acting, etc.)

Is this a solo or group act?

Does the act require music? If so, what is it called?

All acts will be finalised by the morning of Wednesday, April 15th. This will give us time to gather all music and prepare each performer for the big day.

Thank you for supporting our students and we look forward to seeing you on Friday!

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us by email. We would love to answer any question you have.

Introduction to Yoga Practice

Happy Snow Day. I am sure many people are out playing in the snow. If you are looking for some inside physical activity, it may be a good day to look at some of our beginning yoga posses we have explored in PE class.

We have had the pleasure of having a trained yoga instructor, Pia Joyner, assist us in PE class this year. This is a simple introduction that does require adult supervision. Ask your child about other posses they have learned. This would be a great day for the family to practice all together!

Snow Day Fun. Make Snowflakes!!!

So today we have I snow day and you might be thinking, “What kind of art can I do on this special day?”. Well, today is the perfect day to learn to make snowflakes. Give it a try. Watch the fun video below and Carol will teach you how.

International Week Visitor Mr. Ayo

In honor of International Day, IICS had some special guest for a week of excitement. The Early Years and Grade 1 had a very special visit from Mr. Ayo. Mr. Ayo is a percussionist from Gambia who specializes in teaching african percussion around the world. See what fun we had with Mr. Ayo.

Weekly Schedule

Music

Our focus in Early Years and Grade 1 Music is the exploration of musical genres, styles, and activities through organized music play. This involves developing individual singing, listening, and rhythmic skills as well as practicing the use classroom instruments.

PE

During Physical Education classes, student will be exposed to a number of different learning environments including indoor and outdoor spaces.

Please prepare your child for PE days by outfitting them with:

  • Comfortable clothing (loose fitting, athletic, weather appropriate)
  • Athletic shoes
  • Water Bottle
  • Hat (during warm weather months)

*The above items do NOT need to be stored at school. These are just suggestions to ensure your child is comfortable before leaving home on days there are PE classes.

Art

Students will have the opportunity to explore many different types of art and learn the foundations of the subject. These foundational elements include line, shape, form, texture, and much more. Because art can get a little messy, aprons will be provided to protect clothing during activities.
